The Unit for Information

The Unit for Information

This unit is closely linked with the Directorate for Research. It stores the research material and secures a proper flow of information. The unit's information services are also available for researchers who are not part of the GCSS, and to other research organizations. Publications of the GCSS are easily accessible to non-GCSS researchers and organizations.The unit consists of three separate research resources; the library, the electronic (soft copy) archives and the paper (print or hard copy) archives.

1- The library: Comprises many political, economic, social, cultural and military books, periodicals and specialized reports; both in Arabic and English. The library staff collects papers on the seminars and conferences organized by the GCSS or in which its staff participates in and makes them available for researchers.

A- The paper library: Comprises around 3000 books in Arabic on issues of the Gulf and Arab region. There are also some 420 books in English on issues of interest to the West, particularly issues of terrorism, Islam and reform in the Arab countries. The library also contains specialized and academic periodicals in a print format, and Gulf and Arab reports produced by organizations concerned.

B- The electronic library: This is one of the newest services of the Unit for Information. It includes some 1000 electronic books on the strategic, political, security and economic books.

2- The electronic (soft copy) archives: The archives electronically sort and classify the research material (reports, studies, books) produced by the GCSS. It provides staff and non-staff researchers with information about of content of such publications.

3- The paper (print or hard copy) archives:  Concerns the collection and indexing of articles, studies and analysis published in the Arab and Gulf newspapers and magazine in relation to the Arab and Gulf issues. Such materials are indexed geographically (Gulf, Arab and world) and in subject terms (democracy and reform, foreign policy, cultural affairs, security affairs, economic affairs, military affairs)
