Qualifications:

-  Graduated in 1968 at the Department of History, University of Damascus

-   Master's Degree, The Department of  Management and Economics of Maritime Transport, Cardiff University, United Kingdom,  1979 

-   Doctorate Degree in Political Management, Cardiff University, 1984.

Job and experience:

-  Recruitment Director with the Kuwait Navigation Company (1968-1973)

- Assistant Undersecretary for Aqaba Port Affairs, Jordan, (1973-1976).  

- Dr Omar Al-Hassan was Seconded to the Arab League's Arab Maritime Transport Academy (AMTA) in Alexandria (1973-1976).

- He was then appointed manager of the London bureau of AMTA, and was its representative to the Maritime Organization (IMO) of the UN (1976-1979).

-  Ambassador of the Arab League, London and Dublin (1979-1983)-         Chairman of the Gulf Centre for Strategic Studies –GCSS, (1985-present)

-  The Editor-in-chief of Sho'uon Khalijiah, academic journal published by GCSS.

-  Writer of several books, studies, and articles, in Arabic and English.

-  Honorary Secretary General of the UK-Bahrain All Party Parliamentary Group, since 1995.

-  Honorary Secretary General of the UK-Egypt All Party Parliamentary Group, since 1999.
